Kiva or how to finally do something about poverty

Kiva.org allows you to lend money to poor people around the world. A very smart and easy way to do something to help fight poverty in the world.
Microcredit is a good way to empower people, families, to set up their own business with rippling effects in their entourage.

I have just lent 25 $ to a family of 6 in Kampong Cham, Cambodia who lives on 15$ a day (good days that is) selling fruits. The mother needs to buy a motorbike in order to sell fruits at the local market and for that she must raise 700$ of which 525$ are still needed.

Another thing you can do to fight poverty is to grab a copy of Naomi Klein’s latest book, the Shock Doctrine. An incredible eye opener on how the world has been forced into poverty by the ideology of the Chicago School of economics implemented by the IMF.

Going to LIFT09 in Switzerland

Just back from Korea where he organised Lift Asia 08, Laurent Haug is working on the program of LIFT 09 in Geneva, late february. I just bought a “very early bird ticket”.
If only a bit of the innovation happening in Korea trickles down to the conference, it will be worth it. Korea is every Sci Fi fan dream when it comes to robots and incredible gadgets.
One of the speaker at LIFT09 will be Vint Cerf. His bio is impressive.

Technorati 2008 blog survey

Technorati the blog search engine, has released a survey of blogs and bloggers based on nearly 1300 response in 66 countries. (550 in the states, 350 in Europe and 173 in Asia, is that a valid statistical sample ?).
A few things stand out

The mean annual revenue is $6,000 ! I find that truly incredible. It’s a lot if its coming from simple adwords
Four in five bloggers post brand or product reviews ! read : Armageddon for top down, one to many marketing strategies
95% of the blogs have not been updated in the last 3 months

However, when you look at the details, the survey is really about top popular blogs, which enjoy thousands of visitors per month. But still an interesting read.

September 2008 was such an incredible month

What an incredible month september has been !

First there was the launch of the Large Haldron Collider at CERN. An immense project involving the best brains on earth, cutting edge physics in a quest to discover the fabric of the Universe. CERN is not very generous in its outside communication but check out the 12th sept. edition of the BBC program Science in Action for a visit of the LHC.

Then China has its first human in space with the successful Shenzhou VII mission. the taikonaute Zhai Zhigang is the first chinese to walk in Space.

And earlier this month, Google suddenly launched a new browser Chrome. A lot inspired from the Opera browser but definitely a great tool.

Oh yes and there was also the global financial meltdown, the Armageddon of credit institution and banks all over the world.

Forum 2008 du Management de Projet - PRINCE2™ à Paris

If you’re in Paris tomorrow and want to know more about PRINCE2™, the european project management methodology, check out the 2008 edition of the PRINCE2™ project management forum.
The program includes a presentation of the methodology, several implementation cases by Fortis Bank, Sun Microsystems and PNUD (part of United Nations) and a presentation by Colin Bentley the main author of the PRINCE2 well-known “bible” : Managing Successful projects with PRINCE2.

The forum is from 8:30 AM to 13:30 PM at the embassy of Great Britain. It’s free but you need to register.

The forum is organized by QRPMMI a international training and consultancy provider, specialized in Project Management with PRINCE2. QRPMMI is an Accredited Training Organization that offers PRINCE2 training among other things in 7 different languages and in 11 countries (so far for 2008)

Although the PRINCE2 methodology was born in the UK and belongs to the OGC, the Office of government Commerce, an independent office of the UK Treasury, it is spreading popularity throughout Europe. Widely used in northen European countries, PRINCE2 is gaining ground in Italy and Spain and France.

A good source of information about PRINCE2 in France is the PRINCE2 Hub on Viadeo.

Je lance la nouvelle version du site de Radio Notre Dame dans 3 jours.

Ce site est 100% en Ruby on Rails, hébergé chez hostingrails.com.

Cette première version est simple, des nouvelles fonctionnalités seront lancées courant septembre. Le tout dans une approche Agile.

Je suis preneur de commentaires et de critiques.

Le nouveau site est en ligne à l’adresse www.radionotredame.net.

Allez-y, testez-le, secouez-le.

Dites moi ce qui ne fonctionne pas. L’interface est-elle compréhensible ? Le site facile d’utilisation ?

Radio Notre Dame, dont je suis en train de refaire le site Internet dans une optique résolument Web 2.0 et en plus en Ruby on Rails cherche un Webmaster.

Votre mission
Au service des journalistes et sous la direction du responsable éditorial web, votre rôle consistera à mettre en ligne, au quotidien, le contenu du site.

Rebooting at reboot10

For the 4th year in a row I’m back in Wonderful Copenhagen for the Reboot conf, now Reboot10. A intensive programm for the first day starting with a Talk by Howard Rheingold the guy who first thought about smart mobs. 9 sessions later, I’ll probably end the day with a talk on math entitled “Math is Free as Thought - but do you get it? How?”. I must admit that this is the talk I am most excited about. Having lived and breathed in Math in my younger years, it’s something I miss more and more in the adult world.

Twitter and radios

I am on the lookout for clever ideas on mixing mobile, sms and radio.
The grandiose bbc has many sms texting schemes but they are all very standard. You text something and you get some info back.
They also have up to 4 different mobile versions of their web sites.
You can find some radios on twitter however most are not tweeting their life away anymore.
I need some new idea on how to mix sms, radio and mobile.
The problem being that in France, the sms business is totally controlled by the three mobile operators. If you want to set up a process where people text something for you to act upon, you have to pay large amount of money to Orange, Bouygues or SFR. More precisely you have to get your service agreed by the official sms association and use the service of accredited companies.
There is no way you can set a simple text - action - database - text back process cheaply.
There has to be a way around using twitter or jaiku or mozes, ….
