Keep posted on Russia
March 5, 2008 – 6:06 pmJust a few days after the so called elections in Russia, last sunday, information about what is going on in this country has faded from the medias. To keep posted on what is really happening on the democratic front, a good source of information is the The Other Russia the Coalition for Democracy in Russia.
It is so sad to see this great country going back to soviet style ruling after a too brief democratic stage.
I was many times in Russia in the late 90’s. There was an atmosphere of excitment brought upon by a new freedom that was backed up by a feeling of past accomplishement and pride. The future seemed bright although times were difficult. Businesses were opening up everywhere. The telecom industry was booming. People opened up and as long as you made sure your vegies did not come from Ukraine (tchernobyl you know radiations) you were OK. Moscow was vibrating and electric.
What Putin is doing now is not good for Russia, for the russians and for our children all over the world. We all need Russia to join the club of respected democratic countries. We need a partner not a nationalistic dictatorship.
