PRINCE2
November 22, 2007 – 12:10 amIt’s not about the singer performer formerly known as Prince, it’s about the project management methodology. The acronym stands for PRojects INControlled Environment . It has been developped by the OGC (U.K.’s Office of Government Commerce) . What’s funny is that when I started working on one of my first missions as a project manager 10 years ago for a data network company, one of my first tasks was to translate the PRINCE (first version back then) methodology in French. I inquired about the method with the consultancy firm I was working for, Altran Technologies, but no one could tell me anything about it.
I did some of the translating and got to manage the projects I was entitled with. I gave up on using any method and just coped with the everyday chaos. My conclusion at that time was that this PRINCE method must have been some internal thing used only within this particular company. But somehow the acronym stayed on the tip of my mind during all these years.
Fast forward 10 years. Closed down my company and I’m now looking for a job. With my background, Project Manager for Internet related projects seems like a good way to go. I applied to some job posts on Monster and discovered that PRINCE2 is often a requirement for a project management position. A few Internet searches later, I realize that I had indeed used this particular methodology a long time ago.
I guess now is time to get certified.
I was also wondering if there is any equivalent in France of the PRINCE2 methodology.
Anyone has any info on the subject ?
