iPhone when ? where ? by whom ?
August 22, 2007 – 1:26 pmI need an iPhone fast but living in Europe I won’t get my hands on it until sometime far in the future.
Meanwhile, US web sites such as Facebook, Netvibes and Meebo have already launched their iPhone compatible versions.
Meanwhile, thousand of US developers are playing, hacking, retro-engineering the iPhone. Some gathered in San Francisco for the iPhoneDevCamp. Look at them !
A barCamp is announced sometime this fall in Paris : iPhoneDevCamp Paris . Meanwhile, I’ll keep on reading the iPhone Hacks web site.
Question is : who will be the iPhone operators in Europe ? Wouldn’t that make for a good Prediction market ?
[22/08 - update], according to the FT, Apples secures Europe iPhone revenue deals, in today’s edition, the iPhone will be available in France via Orange, ie France Telecom mobile branch, in the UK via O2 and in Germany via T-Mobile. It seems to me that these operators are the most important players in their respective countries. Indeed, why go for the second best when you can have the best ?
The interesting thing is that France, Germany and the UK will be the only European countries to get the iPhone this year. Other countries will have to wait till 2008.
So the only real question that remains is whether or not the iPhone will be available before my birthday on the 4th of October.
