A small step toward eco-friendly computers

Your computer sucks up energy like a 150 watt light bulb. Depending on your activity (word or gaming), your screen (flat or classic) and other factors, that’s what the average computer needs when it’s turned on. That is whether you’re actually working or in the kitchen making tea.
See : Ask the EcoGeek: How Can I Make My Computer Efficient? for more on computer electrical consumption.
So here is a tiny gadget piece of software, straightforward to install, that lowers your computer electric consumption by shutting off hard drive, screen and so on when you’re not active. And less electrical usage equals less CO2 in the atmosphere.
It’s called CO2 Saver, and it’s available at http://co2saver.snap.com/
It will give you an elegant toolbar that indicates how many Lbs or Kg or CO2 saved by this tool. Since Installing it this morning, I have saved 0.140 kg of CO2.Not much but I’ve been working basically non stop. Let’s see how this adds up in the following days. meanwhile it’s a simple thing to do to save some CO2.
