Web3dcamp conference in second life
August 20, 2007 – 10:01 am
I just got news about this conference that will happen on September the 8th and 9th in second life , the virtual world that already has a population of around 9 million people.
I did try second life last June, one evening. After spending quite some time trying to get my character to look like something not too random and ugly (no success here I must admit), I played around with the basic tools. Flying is truly incredible, talking more tricky. The interface works perfect, but talking to strangers is not easier in virtual reality than it is in the street. Then what ? What do I do next ? And since time is precious, I didn’t get back to SL after that.
However, here is something that seems truly worth the time and effort. A conference in second life. About virtual worlds of course. What an amazing way to have people from all over the world participating ! This is the future. No CO2, no travel expenses, no time wasted.
The conference is called Web3dCamp.
The web3Dcamp is an ad-hoc un-conference in second life. it follows the principles of a barcamp and wants to bring together residents from around the world to discuss and share ideas about the upcoming three dimensional web, virtual worlds … the metaverse et al.
If I can find the conference and make my character more “human”, I’ll be there.
